REFLECTIONS
Experience
Our first practical exercise was to create physical collages, which I have never done before. Even though it was quite a tedious process, I enjoyed it very much. Physical collages require hours of flipping through piles of magazines and books, choosing and cutting and then finally assembling the elements together. We then moved onto creating digital collage using the provided images. This process was quite difficult for me as I have never used Adobe Photoshop before. However, from then on, using Adobe Photoshop was a breeze as I have learnt how to use the basic tools. For the last project, I struggled with Adobe After Effects as the tools and features were overwhelming for a first-timer like me. Fortunately, we had Mr Martin to show and explain to us, which was of tremendous help. MY favourite project would be the last project, Self-Titled Poster. We could express and portray ourselves using our own style. I enjoyed the freedom in exploration and limitless approach to it.
Findings
The past 14 weeks of Digital Photography and Imaging class has been rather interesting. I've gotten the chance to learn and practice my skills using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects. It was not easy at first, but throughout the practical sessions guided by Mr Martin, and many hours of watching tutorials on the internet then trying them out myself, I believe my editing and animating competency has improved.
Observations
At first, I thought this module would concentrate and revolve around photography. To my surprise, we learned more about graphic design and how to create posters that are effective in sending messages across to a viewer. I have learnt the significance of applying design principles in crafting a piece of design work. Hierarchy, balance and legibility are some of the very basic yet important basis of a good design work.
