“Financial Literacy for Fresh Graduate” by ALLIANZ
Date: 16 Oct 2023, Monday
Time: 10.00 am - 11.00 am
Through this talk, I have understood the financial needs pyramid, and the importance of cash flow, emergency funds, investment, and retirement planning. The speakers also mentioned that insurance is a crucial risk management tool throughout this financial journey. The 50/30/20 rule was introduced, allocating income to necessities, wants, and savings, which I have heard before but now I understand it more. Capital, risk, time, inflation, knowledge, returns, and accessibility are some of the factors influencing savings. The speakers also touched on the subjects EPF and insurance plans for disciplined, forced savings that we might find useful. The speaker was able to educate us on investment. She used simple terms and explained how we should diversify our investments understand the risk appetite, and avoid borrowing for investments. The talk concluded with financial habits for fresh graduates like us, urging the adoption of good practices like obtaining medical insurance, adhering to the 50/30/20 rule, budgeting, setting financial goals, responsible spending, timely bill payments, debt settlement, credit score building, learning to say no, and balancing financial responsibility while enjoying our 20s.

“Best Practices in LinkedIn & Professional Online Etiquette” by PwC
Date: 17 Oct 2023, Tuesday
Time: 10.00 am - 11.00am
This session I learnt that LinkedIn is now a very popular platform for employers to take a look at you before they even meet you. Tha's why you should constantly share and update what you've studied and your work or volunteer experiences. We should also be mindful online— in a way that we should avoid posting anything offensive, and keep personal photos private. This is not Facebook or Instagram. On LinkedIn, showcase your research, honors, and references professionally. Exclude things family or friends. Instead, choose endorsements from former employers, colleagues, or your university clubs. Be honest about your achievements—and definitely no faking! Keep it genuine and professional on your LinkedIn profile.

1. Loyalty: Don't spread false information and be cautious of organizational politics.
2. Reliability: Demonstrate commitment and accept responsibility for your actions and priorities.
3. Resilience: Learn from mistakes, and maintain optimism. Focus on the positive aspects and control what you can.
4. Communication: Prioritize clear, verbal, and non-verbal communication. EPratice active listening, it is more important than we think.
5. Flexibility: Embrace change, exceed job descriptions, and collaborate across departments. Go the extra mile and help your colleagues without expecting anything in return, but be wary if people are exploiting you.
1. "From the 5 key principles, which one do you think is the most important?"
Ans: Communication. Make sure you're always on the same page as your coworkers, particularly in a multicultural context like his experience transitioning from Europe to Malaysia.
2. "If we enter a workplace as a fresh graduate how can we position ourselves so that our co-workers or superiors trust us?"
Ans: Trust is an important workplace element, and it requires time to build. Sir mentioned being open to giving trust to colleagues, making yourself vulnerable, and observing how they react.
3. "What would be a good way to decide whether the environment is really toxic or that sometimes we may just be "too sensitive"? As there may be several behaviors which may be normalized by some but be viewed as toxic by others"
Ans: Whether a workplace is genuinely toxic, the suggestion is not to hastily label the workplace as toxic. Instead, consider changing your mindset and attitude, because sometimes challenges exist in every workplace and persistence will get you through tough times, regardless of the job or company.

"Music is a communal affair that brings ppl from all walks of life."
Susanna Saw shared how they adapted during the COVID lockdown by arranging online workshops and providing free music lessons and theater resources. Their community now spans from 7-year-olds to 77-year-olds. Susan also talked about the importance of the human element and building connections to grow a choir and a community. She highlighted that music connects people from all walks of life and urged breaking stereotypes in music education. Many people still think that people who study music don't do well in school, and that's why this was one of the few paths they could take. Which is usually not the case.
During the Q&A, Susan revealed she chose the music industry to stand out and succeed in unconventional ways, encouraging others to explore unique paths. When she said, "I don't like doing something everyone else is already doing, that way I can stand out!" This session was really inspiring and had a bit of a different approach than the other talks, as this one had a more human approach to it.
