Design Principles/ Project 1 - Self Portrait
LECTURES
During our lecturer session, Dr Charles interpreted self-portraits and even painted one himself, while listening to his favourite music genre- space music. It was both ambient and creepy, definitely not my taste which only made me realise how unique every person is!

PROJECT 1: Self-Portrait
My initial idea was to create a cereal box called Ellis O's that would have me holding a bowl. The cereal in the bowl would be in the shapes of my heritage background and my favourite things like my pet turtles and penny boards! The idea of a cereal 'box' then led to the idea of a barbie doll 'box' which I thought would be more fun and also more appropriate for the objective of the project.
After taking a few photos for use, I chose the one which I posed stiffly, much like a doll! Despite so, I decided to also try a stylised, illustrated version, which I very much enjoyed drawing on Procreate. As for the layout, my name is displayed at the bottom. It has taken a sizeable amount of space and the word has a white border to bring emphasis and hierarchy to all the texts present on the canvas. On the left, my 3 favourite things which come entangled with my personal issues, are all aligned to one another whilst comprising of the same colour (words and background). All elements in this piece are arranged harmoniously and the colours are complementary to each other.
