Week 3: Repetition and Movement - watercolour or pastels
LECTURES
Dr Charles included the Movement design principle last week during the lecture over Microsoft Teams. Hence, I have included the screenshots of the lecture and attached them below. His amusing toy soldier story was enlightening and engaging, to say the least. This week, Dr Charles painted whilst teaching us on the other design principles, such as hierarchy, alignment and repetition. He then gave feedbacks on the work we did last week.

TASK 1: Repetition
For this principle, I wanted to create a piece that has repetition not only in its shape but also in similar colours. As shown in Fig 2.2, I first attempted on trying out red, blue and purples circles versus a single bright yellow triangle to show how repetition can create interest and bring focus to a subject. However, after approaching Dr Charles for consultation, we both agreed the piece was rather plain and flavourless despite possessing the design principle. I then came up with another idea- using orange circles and blue items.
FINAL DESIGN OUTCOME: REPETITION

TASK 2: Movement
I really really LOVE all your works so far! There is so much activity and warmth in them. For some reason, they resonate with you. I know the online classes aren't what we all expected but the silver lining to all that is ideas which are more precious than anything! Your grasp of the visual principles seem to connect to your own visual vocabulary and I believe its time for you to inject more narratives in them. Just that don't be limited with the frame or borders (btw, the sketches and idea explorations seem to show a lot more promise! haha!). Also, consider adding more dynamism in your shapes so we could see more fluidity, perspectives and etc. the point is take advantages of these qualities to your advantage! Overall, strong and getting stronger!
